Too many To Dos and too little time to do ‘em
We’re going to Europe on Tuesday (!) and there’s still so much to do.
So much to do before we can sit back, relax, drop our tray tables and cuddle a whiskey while binge watching… Every. Single. Movie.
My wife kept rattling off things we had to do.
So I created a shared To Do list.
Now she keeps adding things to it. It’s an endless game of Whack a Mole while the clock runs down. A productivity arms race.
The last time we travelled we went around the world and had a year to do it.
Now we’ve got three weeks and we’re bootstrapping our own Contiki.
Booking buses, trains, ferries and planes.
Writing a full user manual for our house and our children.
We’re going without the kids. Did I mention that?
There’s so much to do.
Yes, yes I know. It’s like a second honeymoon. But that means we need to make sure every little thing we do unconsciously morning, noon and night needs to be planned, documented, and pre-packed before take off.
My mother is going to earn a saint hood. My father in law a knighthood minimum. My eldest a medal and my youngest a … well, if the house is still standing when we get home that’s a win.
My daughters are going to stuff their therapy stockings. “Dad, remember that time you left us for three weeks…”
Or they’ll only know we’re not there by the 300% increase in sugar in their bloodstream. Bed time becoming a laughable figment and chores an urban legend.
Sigh. So. Much. To. Do.
We’re headed to Europe for a 50th birthday, a week long conference for my wife and remote working test for me, a weekend in Belgium with our besties, a few days to scout the Netherlands and then another handful zooting around Portugal trying to fall in love.
Before refolding ourselves like Babuska dolls to get home.
Lisbon to London,
Oh look we have eight hours in Heathrow.
London to Zurich,
11 hours of why didn’t we book that direct flight again?
and then Zurich to Cape Town.
40 hours later we get home.
Oh and I’m pushing for a promotion at work.
The planets aligned and my CEO wants me to write for the company. So I’ve I’m lining up evidence to make it obvious that I should be Head of Creative.
And in the midst of this chaos, I still wrote some stuff. Since we last spoke about four chapters, ripping out three and scheduling two. Woot!
I hope your writing is going well?
Speak soon, will write, gotta run.
